Using drugs or alcohol can seem to ???fix our feelings??? temporarily – by numbing them in the short term. To heal you have to be able to process your feelings in a healthy way, rehab will help you to do this and become free from the cycle of addiction.

Rehab is designed to be a safe and nurturing environment in which to deal with your past, present and future.

More about therapy and counselling

Group Therapy sessions usually comprise of a small group of residents/clients being facilitated in a therapeutic process by an addictions counsellor/psychotherapist. In this setting, you will be able to help one another to make positive changes through the processes of empathy, confrontation and support.

During group therapy our counsellors will be able to listen and reflect back to you on things you have shared ??? your life story, the consequences of your addiction or what your feelings you are experiencing in the here and now. The insights of your peers can help you to broaden your understanding of addiction and of yourself.

Some group therapy will be informed by a particular type of counselling theory such as:

  • Trauma therapy
  • Cognitive behavioural therapy
  • Dialectical behaviour therapy
  • Relapse prevention
  • Gender group
  • Body image group
  • Relationship therapy

Some rehabs also offer:

  • Art therapy
  • Equine assisted therapy

One-to-one counselling is a core facet of primary treatment. During individual counselling, we focus on you and your specific circumstances. You will have the opportunity work through your issues privately and confidentially with your focal therapist. There will usually be a structure to your sessions which will be part of your treatment plan

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a type of talking therapy. The work that you do during CBT will be tailored to your specific needs and goals. With an expert therapist, you will explore and then challenge the thoughts, attitudes and behaviours that are blocking your recovery. During CBT you will learn to:

  • Recognize triggering situations which could lead to relapse
  • Develop healthy ways of coping with thoughts and feelings
  • Learn relationship skills, like assertiveness

CBT is really effective for rehab because it is a structured approach which can work within the timescale of drug and alcohol rehab.

What Aftercare Options do Rehabs in South Yorkshire Offer?

On completing rehab we hope that you will carry on into long-term sobriety and build on the achievements that you have made in treatment.

We are committed to supporting your long term. This may mean that we provide you with second and third stage care, where you will receive some support to help you transition back into ???normal??? living.

The thought of leaving treatment can be quite nerve-wracking but you will leave treatment with a thorough relapse prevention plan, which you will have designed with the help of your counsellor and peers. This plan will include steps to take when you find yourself wanting to drink or use again.

You will be able to attend aftercare groups at the rehab to support you through those first months.

In addition to the aftercare services that we provide we encourage our clients to find a community in the South Yorkshire area Alcoholics and Narcotics Anonymous meetings, a comprehensive list of meetings is available on their UK websites. There you will find a community of sober, recovering people. You will not have to recover alone.
