The Rules

Residential rehab is a controlled environment, for the safety of every resident. You will be able to go out, but with support staff and peers. This restriction is part of relapse prevention when you are at your most vulnerable.

You may not be permitted to take your mobile, tablet, or laptop into rehab ??? this would be so you are not distracted and can focus on your recovery. It is also beneficial to limit your contact with those people who might be a danger to your recovery.

You will be able to have phone contact ??? usually in the evening. You can make and accept phone calls from family members and friends. You will need to provide the rehab with a list of names of those people who you would like contact with. People whose names are not on the list will not be given any information about you including whether or not you are a resident because of the policy of confidentiality that rehabs abide by.

You will be able to have visitors in rehab, usually on the weekend. This should be arranged with your counsellor.

The use of non-prescribed medications, drugs, or alcohol may result in discharge.

It is important to be aware when your thinking is putting you at risk of having a drink or a drug. In rehab, you will learn safe ways of dealing with life experiences and difficult feelings. In aftercare, you will be able to process these experiences if and when they come up and share your struggles and your successes with the group

Relapse prevention training will help you to pause and look beyond the present moment and see the consequences of what a relapse would be.

Personal development

The aftercare programme will enable you to further develop your recovery skills and so enrich your life. Through aftercare, your counsellor and peers will be able to help you process your struggles and support you in achieving your goals.

It is not about giving up autonomy and being told what to do, instead, the groups and therapists will be able to facilitate you in finding your own solutions.

The therapeutic programme is all about equipping you for a long-term sobriety, fulfilling relationships, and a happy life.?? Whilst rehabilitation and aftercare offer valuable support, you must be willing and engaged with the process for it to be effective in the long term.
