Private Rehab Clinics
When a person finds him or herself addicted to any substance or behaviour, they usually have three options: free services from the NHS, services offered by charities and support groups, and private rehab clinics. We recommend a private clinic as the first option whenever possible. It offers many advantages not available through NHS services or charities.
That being said, we do know that a private rehab clinic is not always viable. In such cases, we are more than happy to work with individuals who want to take advantage of the other available options. Our number one goal is to make sure every client gets the help they need, regardless of whether or not that help is through one of the private rehab clinics we work with.
Definition of Private Rehab
To understand what private rehab is, we need to deal with two words: ‘private’ and ‘rehab’. We’ll begin with the former.
Private services are those offered by professional organisations who are paid by clients for what they do. Private services can be rendered by residential clinics, independent counsellors, private physicians, and so on. Support groups and charities are not typically considered private organisations, though they are not the same as operations run by the NHS.
The term ‘rehab’ is used to denote the entire compendium of services used to achieve long-term sobriety. In other words, rehab is not just counselling or detox. It is a combination of therapies implemented according to an individual treatment plan developed by a trained professional.
Rehab can include any combination of the following basic components:
Detox – The first step in rehab for any chronic addict is detox. Drug or Alcohol detox is the safest when supervised by medical personnel. In some cases, medication might also be used to reduce the potential danger associated with the process. You need to understand that detox is considered a medical emergency within the addiction recovery community.
Counselling – There are a number of different types of counselling clients may undergo throughout the course of their treatment programmes. One of the most effective types of counselling is known as cognitive behavioural therapy. This type of counselling forces the client to come to terms with those things that tend to trigger his/her addictive behaviour.
Life Skills – Once cognitive behavioural therapy uncovers deep-rooted issues, life skills training teaches the individual how to avoid those triggers or conquer them. Without proper life skills training, it’s nearly impossible to attain long-term abstinence.
Support – There’s a lot to be said about the support of clinical staff as well as others who are going through the same difficulties. That’s why almost every residential rehab programme includes multiple ways of achieving group support. Group support can come by way of joint counselling, group accountability, shared leisure activities, and group education.
Why We Recommend Private Rehab Clinics
Now that you understand private rehab, you might be wondering why we recommend the private clinics we do. The simple answer is the fact that these clinics offer the best chances of long-term success. The NHS and various support groups and charities cannot match their track record.
Do not misunderstand; it’s not that these other organisations are not doing their best or do not have your best intentions at heart. They do. Every public facility and service is still designed to help the addict break free from an addictive lifestyle. However, truth be known, they are lacking the resources.
Let’s take the NHS as an example. As you know, the NHS is tasked with treating every patient that comes through the doors regardless of the illness, injury, or medical condition. Between the sheer volume of patients and the number of things that need to be treated, NHS services are already stretched as thin as they can be. They simply do not have the resources to devote to comprehensive addiction rehab.
A private clinic is different. Private rehab clinics focus all of their resources on addiction recovery because that’s all they do. Clinical staff are not worrying about other things; money is not being spent on things that don’t pertain to recovery programmes; clients are not distracted by an environment dealing with things outside of addiction.
Simply put, private rehab clinics offer:
a single, laser-like focus
clinical staff not facing other distractions
a private and secure environment
an atmosphere more conducive to recovery
custom tailored treatment plans
the availability of individualised help.
Cost of Private Care
The one thing you need to know about private rehab clinics is that they are not free. A typical residential programme can cost several thousand pounds or more. However, rest assured there are private clinics at different price levels. We should be able to find one you can afford.
If paying for private care proves to be challenging, there are options. Some of our clients ask for financial donations from friends and family members. As long as those individuals trust the client’s commitment to getting well, they are often more generous than expected.
If you have private health insurance, rest assured most plans pay for drug or alcohol addiction recovery. You’ll need to check with your insurance provider to be sure. Fortunately, all of the clinics we work with accept most of the major health insurance plans in the UK.
Finally, there’s always the possibility of commercial financing. You may be able to utilize a credit card account or apply for a personal loan through your bank. You’ll end up paying interest with both of these options, but that’s better than not seeking treatment at all.
When clients cannot afford care at a private clinic and their financing options prove fruitless, there may be help available through an alcohol or drug recovery charity. These charities are not as plentiful as private rehab clinics, but they are available. We’ll do what we can to see if you qualify for any of them.

When addiction takes over a person’s life, they will often tell us that they just want the problem to go away. It stands to reason therefore, that many people suffering from addiction seek some sort of quick fix. For some individuals this may mean cutting the substance out immediately, which can lead to unpleasant withdrawals and often to relapse. Others will look into private rehab clinics.
The advantage of private residential treatment is that it can be accessed immediately. It is important not to get caught up in the speed of the process, and to make sure that the rehab centre chosen is going to be the one best suited to the needs of the person.
Rapid Detox Approach
Certain private rehab clinics will offer what is known as a rapid detox. This is a service where the person is sedated for the duration of their stay, in order for the body to rid itself of a substance. Whilst the idea of being substance-free within a matter of days may be very appealing, it is important to approach this treatment with caution. Addiction is by nature a two-sided illness, one the one hand a physical dependence and on the other a psychological dependence. Private rehab clinics that offer rapid detox are focusing primarily on the physical side of things. Whilst some will offer an aftercare programme comprising of weekly counselling sessions, it is important to realise that the person will leave the rehab clinic with all the psychological dependence still in place, therefore increasing the likelihood of relapse before aftercare can be accessed.
Rehab Through Detox And Therapy
A more rounded approach is to deal with the physical and psychological side of the addiction alongside each other. This enables the person to identify why they may be feeling a certain way, and to teach them coping strategies to deal with this way of feeling. However, for this approach to work, the person needs to be awake. Rapid detox programmes which sedate the person cannot provide this service. A private rehab clinic which offers a medicated detox alongside an intensive therapy programme is the route most likely to result in long-term success.helloPrivate Rehab Clinics
