It is easy for someone with little or no experience of addiction to tell an addict to simply ???stop it???. However, what they fail to realise is that an individual who is suffering from addiction will often need to go through addiction detox and various other treatments to actually kick their habit once and for all. This can be frustrating for loved ones to see and often does lead to the deterioration of once stable relationships, but it is important for friends and family members to realise that addiction is an illness that totally consumes the life of the individual, often without this person even realising.
With the correct support from loved ones, medical professionals and even counsellors, it is entirely possible for an addict to overcome their addiction and move on to lead a happier, healthier life. For example, singer-songwriter James Davenport had been suffering from a drug and alcohol addiction for 25 years, but after completing an addiction detox, he went on to produce a song that he hopes will reach number one in time for Christmas.
The confidentially titled song Christmas Number One features a list of stars from Manchester in a traditional Christmas style video. The upbeat tune is raising funds for Macmillan Cancer Support, and James has already bagged himself 100,000 fans on his Facebook page.
He has found that he is receiving mass amounts of support, especially from celebrities. These include Happy Mondays star Bez, Shameless stars Tina Malone and Jody Latham, former Waterloo Road actor Will Rush, model Maddie Morgan, former Hollyoaks and Coronation Street star Saira Choudhry and Salford DJ Mike Sweeney, who all make an appearance in James??? music video.
James has been performing for more than twenty years and says that music is his passion and is what has got him through his drug and alcohol addiction. He is the lead singer and writer of the band HANKyPARK, who have released three albums on iTunes. This makes James even more motivated to get his song to number one over the competition that includes the John Lewis advert song ???One Day I???ll Fly Away??? by the Vaults and the X Factor winners??? song. John said, ???I???m going to get to number one. The song has already got a big following, and it???s only the beginning of December.???
James decided to release his song to the public after completing an addiction detox; the former athlete who played rugby for Leeds Rhinos and Salford Reds and was a professional boxer has now been sober for six months after struggling with addiction for 25 years prior. He wants other people in the same position as he was in to be inspired by his story and for them to move on to seek help.
A Dream Come True
James, who will share the stage with megastar Robbie Williams at the Key 103 Christmas Live event at the Manchester Arena this month, explained, ???I???m in six months??? recovery from drugs and alcohol, and it has been a journey. To release a single is a dream come true for me. I performed my final fight as a boxer at the Manchester Arena, so to be back there as a singer is like coming back full circle.???
The plot in James??? music video sees his character being thrown out of his home at Christmas by his furious partner. He goes through the video making amends with anyone he has hurt or upset and eventually ends up back at home with his family, who are his ???Christmas Number One???.
In the video, Jody stars as a homeless man who he assists in the video and Tina acts as a woman who throws water over James as he busks in the street. James??? children, twelve-year-old Donovan and six-year-old Gracie Lee also star in the heart-warming video that James hopes will encourage others to seek help for addiction and not to let it carry on until it is too late.
